Hi there!

My name is Catalina and I am originally from Colombia but have been living in Miami for the past 17 years.  Growing up I was very exposed to art, since my mom is an artist and I was always super crafty and artistic. Always making something. I am an artist with a major in communications and art and creativity have always been my happy place.

Redviolet Studio started 12 years ago. Art has always been my passion and I loved working with children too; so once my first son, Martin (now 13), was about 6 month’s old, I started doing all kind of sensory art and play activities with him: we painted, explored different textures and materials, created with clay, playdough and lots of other stuff I enjoyed experimenting with. And from there on, we never stopped. Then Manolo was born (now 11) and once he started school, I started with Redviolet Studio as a mobile business to bring art, play and crafts to kids ages 7m-10yo. It has been the happiest journey of my life as I feel like I do not ever work. Doing what I do brings me so much joy and I feel lucky to be able to enable so many fun opportunities to learn, play and be creative, while having fun.

I have a wonderful husband, who is a full time artist (www.gonzalofuenmayor.com) and my 2 amazing boys, Martin & Manolo, who have grown to be surrounded by art and fully enjoy the privilege of having a home art studio (my “office”, ha! Lucky me I know!) at home to embrace their ideas, their tinkering and their creativity, always.

Meet our Teachers

Rosa

Tell us a little about yourself: I’m from Venezuela; I studied medicine in my country and specialized in ENT. Nevertheless, since I was very little, art and music have been my passion. I started studying music at a very young age, and played the violin for many years and growing up I always took art and crafts classes which were my all time favorite.  I LOVE working with children, so having the opportunity of connecting art with kids in these RV classes has been amazing.

Favorite color: blue

Favorite Playgroup station: painting

Favorite Art supply: Watercolors and playdough

What do you like the most about working with children: Observing the connection of the children with the sensory stations we bring. Seeing their little faces of excitement and curiosity as they discover new textures and materials. Watching all the emotions that flourish with this exploration. Sometimes I forget about the time when we are in class because I end up turning into another child myself, playing and creating next to them.  Makes me think RV classes are created not only for the kids but also for the adults!

What is your favorite part of working with Redviolet Studio: Being able to stay in contact with the little girl inside me and being part of a work environment full of love and endless creativity.

Alejandra

Tell us a little about yourself: I was born and raised in Venezuela. My mom’s family immigrated from Italy and Ethiopia way before I was born. One of my favorite traditions at home was always having this cultural mix; it made me appreciate and identify with both countries as I was growing up. Today I still feel these mix of cultures define me; from my way of cooking, expressing myself, and speaking the languages. Currently I have a deep passion for wellness, cooking, and teaching others how to take care of their health and wellbeing through good habits, food and lifestyle.

Favorite color: purple

Favorite Art supply: Crayons

Favorite Playgroup Station: Rice and Waterbeads

What do you like about working with children: Children are a mirror of hope, happiness, and unconditional love. I love how much we can learn from kids and all the tools I can offer them as a teacher, for them to grow and develop. Since I was a kid I used to be a magnet for babies and children! I guess my energy, patience, and love for those with pure heart makes them feel safe around me.

What is your favorite part of working with Redviolet Studio: I love having the chance of being part of so many kids and families lives and making a difference.
